Description:
Splinters is the first documentary film exploring how surfing developed among the indigenous people of Papua New Guinea. In the 1980s, an Australian pilot left a surfboard in the coastal village of Vanimo. Two decades later, surfing has become central to village life and a symbol of status. With limited opportunities for economic or educational progress, and lacking basic amenities like running water and electricity, the village exists in isolation. A place on the national surfing team offers the only path to experiencing the wider world.
