Description:
Sunil, a medical student from a village in India, lives with his widowed mother, Janki. He's deeply in love with his childhood sweetheart, Shanta, and their impending marriage is expected by all. But Janki disapproves of Shanta, considering her unrefined and uneducated, and instead arranges Sunil's marriage to Shobha. Shortly after, Shanta's mother, Parvati, falls gravely ill. Sunil rushes home, promises to marry Shanta to save her, but she dies. Sunil returns to the city, finishes his studies, and opens a clinic in his village. He discovers Shanta is now married to Lakshmipati, the village's wealthiest man – a widower with a deceased child and significantly older than Shanta. The film follows Sunil as he confronts Shanta, seeking answers about her betrayal of him and her promise to her mother.
