Description:
The Tugendhat family's villa, built in the late 1920s, has captivated imaginations for decades. British writer Simon Mawer's novel, "The Glass Room," explores the lives of Liesel and Viktor Landauer in Brno between the World Wars. Viktor, a rising industrialist, and Liesel, a wealthy woman from a prominent family, received the villa as a wedding gift – a striking glass and concrete house designed by an Austrian architect. Within its walls, their family life unfolds alongside stories of infidelity and same-sex love. Simultaneously, the villa's glass walls offer a view of the growing danger of Hitler's Germany and the changing political landscape of Czechoslovakia. As the threat becomes imminent, the Landauers realize their time in their unique home is ending.
