Description:
This documentary film chronicles the life of Arndt Pekurinen and his role in the early 20th-century peace movement. A vocal advocate for pacifism and conscientious objection, Pekurinen garnered international support for his beliefs. Yet, his pacifist views clashed with Finland's prevailing nationalist and militaristic climate. He was branded a troublemaker and a traitor, seen as an affront to traditional masculinity. The film offers a timeless story of persecution for one's convictions, while also examining the limited tolerance for dissenting voices in young, independent Finland. Pekurinen was executed by his own countrymen on November 5, 1941, during the Continuation War.
