Son chant (2021)

While reviewing footage from the last ten years, I found a forgotten night scene of Chantal Akerman and Sonia Wieder-Atherton leaving a restaurant in Montparnasse where we had eaten together. The scene lingered in my mind, leading me to examine Chantal’s use of sound in her films and her extensive collaboration with cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton, with whom she worked on over twenty films. Because New York, Paris, and Moscow were places we all knew, I combined some of my images with hers.
