The Silent Nu River (2005)

Deep in the Qinghai Province mountains of China, a network of small coal mines employs local villagers. These miners toil daily, covered in coal dust, to earn just 500 yuan a month. The film documents their arduous work, capturing the sounds of their labored breathing and the sights they encounter working underground, all while holding onto hopes for a more prosperous future.
