Une saison (2002)

Yves Edouard is a farmer, growing cereals and endive – a man who seems straight out of a novel. I visited his farm one morning and he hired me to weed his endive fields. I’d envisioned something grand and beautiful, a film of the work, but that wasn't possible. I then met Catherine Pernot, a friend of my friend Sophie Roger, and was struck by her way of speaking, even about everyday things. I described the endive farm work to her so she could make it her own story. I recorded her and adapted her words into a script for her to perform on camera. The film is structured around two scenes: Catherine telling the story, and Yves answering my questions, as if they've become their characters.
