Bears (2007)

In the gay subculture, a "bear" is a homosexual man who embraces exaggerated masculine traits, often including body hair, and rejects traditionally effeminate gay behaviors. Every February since 1992, the Mr. International Bear Contest has been held in San Francisco, where contestants compete for the title of top bear. Documentary filmmaker Marc Klasfeld explores this world in "Bears," offering an intimate look at the subculture. Klasfeld begins by revisiting the inaugural 1992 competition and then focuses on the 2006 event, spending time with participants and capturing the atmosphere of the contest.
