Nightmare in Blood (2001)

A series of brutal attacks have plagued the city: women returning home at night are being raped and murdered, overwhelming the police. Officer Zheng Qiang is assigned to the investigation, while his journalist girlfriend, Yu Xin, interviews Xiao Ling, a woman involved in adult phone calls, at a restaurant where the owner, Mei Shumin, also tries to engage her. The mysterious killer later contacts Xiao Ling, threatening her life over the phone. Seeking protection, Xiao Ling brings friends, but it doesn't save her from being murdered after the initial assault. A call from the killer to the police further complicates the case. As Zheng Qiang works tirelessly to solve the crimes, the killer begins to target Yu Xin.
