Description:
At the 2002 Rotterdam Film Festival, Leo Hannewijk, director of Film by the Sea, proposed a project to filmmaker Digna Sinke: commissioning filmmakers to create short films inspired by poems about the Zeeland province. The aim was to explore the possibilities of film as a medium, focusing on mood and form rather than narrative, similar to poetry's approach to universal themes. Eight distinct short films were produced by eight different filmmakers, linked by aerial shots of the Zeeland coastline. Poems of the Sea offers a moving and unexpected look at Zeeland, exploring themes of desire and passion.
