Description:
In 1970, during a period of intense military dictatorship, five imprisoned guerrillas publicly renounced their armed struggle and endorsed the regime. As a result, the government began a policy of forcing similar declarations from opponents through torture. By 1975, approximately forty prisoners had undergone these "repentances." *Os Arrependidos* tells the largely forgotten story of these former activists who, as young adults, abandoned their lives for a cause, were imprisoned and tortured, and then became tools of propaganda for their oppressors.
