Description:
Phillips begins a new project focused on subjects aware of themselves. His first two films, featuring Lindsay Lohan (2011) and Sasha Grey (2011), premiered at the “Commercial Break” film project at the 2011 Venice Biennale. These "motion portraits" show the actresses posing erotically—Grey in a modernist home and Lohan in an infinity pool. Both project self-awareness, suggesting how storytelling can change them, highlighted by their beauty. Phillips's third film, First Point (2012), is his second with Lohan and third with surf filmmaker Taylor Steele. A modern film noir, it combines eerie nighttime scenes with surfing sequences featuring pro-surfer Kassia Meador (Lohan’s stunt double) and Lohan herself.
