Between 2000 and 2007, Teat(r)o Oficina Uzyna Uzona created a five-part theatrical adaptation of Euclides da Cunha's historical book, *Os Sertões*, which recounts the 19th-century War of Canudos in the Brazilian backlands, led by Antônio Conselheiro. The fourth play explores the war's origins, focusing on a judge's decision to block a wood shipment intended for the construction of the New Church of Canudos. This sparked three unsuccessful National Army expeditions, the last commanded by Colonel Moreira César. The Army suffered desertions and the death of Colonel Tamarindo, who becomes a central figure in a disturbing display erected by local residents and armed groups to deter further attacks on Canudos.
