Description:
Also known as *Darling of the Gods*, this was Emil Jannings' second film with sound. Jannings plays Albert Winkelmann, a celebrated opera singer who enjoys adoration in Vienna. However, during a South American tour, disaster strikes when the heat causes him to lose his voice mid-performance, resulting in humiliation. Dejected, he returns to Europe only to discover that his misfortune in South America is unknown. Hoping to retire and avoid further embarrassment, Winkelmann is persuaded back on stage, where his voice unexpectedly returns.
