Description:

The film opens with a view of Brindisi, a city rooted in a working-class tradition, dominated by a sprawling petrochemical complex. It portrays the lives of children in impoverished areas and the concerns of workers facing economic hardship, layoffs, and seeking favor from the Christian Democrats for opportunities at Montecatini. Contrasting this are scenes of affluent people enjoying themselves at a restaurant and farmers displaced from their land to make way for the industry. A puppet show depicts a worker as "starved." At a training course for workers, positive testimonials praise Monteshell, but a shadowy figure reveals widespread fear of speaking out, unequal pay for skilled and unskilled labor, mass layoffs, and controlled union activity where strikes are treated as a business. Shot in black and white on 35mm film.
