Description:
In 1939, inside a French prison camp, José Garcés, a survivor of the Spanish Republican army, shares a story from his childhood to lift the spirits of his fellow inmates. He recounts the year 1911, when he was eight years old, living in a small town in northeastern Spain. A mischievous boy, he constantly annoyed his father and was deeply infatuated with a girl named Valentina. He would send semaphore messages to her from his rooftop at night and write poetry, often getting into trouble, like when he accidentally killed her father's prized pigeons. During a family camping trip to a crumbling castle, his sympathetic tutor, a priest, tells him stories of brave men, saints, and poets. Already a budding poet himself, José learns a valuable lesson about what it truly means to be a hero.
