Description:
While women were expected to be submissive, Qiu Jin challenged the unequal customs of her era. Intelligent and independent, she was skilled in martial arts and poetry. After marrying and moving to Beijing, she witnessed foreign powers invade and devastate her country. Encouraged by her neighbor Wu Zhiying, she left her family to study in Japan, where she connected with revolutionary thinkers, including Xu Xilin. She secretly joined his movement to overthrow the Qing dynasty. Returning to China, Qiu Jin took part in uprisings led by Xu Xilin, leading students in armed resistance against the corrupt Qing government.
