Ongewisse tijd (2006)

The documentary opens with a dramatized recreation of the 1774 sea voyage of Hartog Simon Pos and his brother Matthijs to Suriname. Nearly two centuries later, Diego Pos makes a return trip, becoming the last Pos to leave the colony. In *Ongewisse tijd*, Pos searches for his Jewish family history and that of Suriname's Jewish community. He discovers unexpected relatives, including Simon Matthijs, born to a slave in the 18th century. His search and encounters with different Jewish communities in Suriname unfold alongside the dramatized story of Hartog Simon and Matthijs, whose close bond was strained by romantic entanglements.
