Description:
This film tells the story of Vera Mukhina (1889-1953), a remarkable sculptor from Riga. She studied in Paris under Bourdelle, a student of Rodin, and became a leading figure in European sculpture. In 1937, Mukhina unveiled her massive sculpture, "Worker and Peasant Woman," at the Paris World's Fair. The 75-ton, 53-meter ensemble was an instant sensation. Mukhina’s dedication to humanist ideals was powerfully embraced by the Soviet propaganda system.
