Description:
Mishima transplants the story to a 1950s city park. Five couples are embracing on benches when a 99-year-old woman arrives to collect cigarette butts. A poet scolds her for interrupting the lovers and using their bench. They discuss life and love. The old woman reveals she was once a beautiful woman admired by Captain Fukakusa, recalling a dance. As she describes it, the poet and the audience are transported back to Rokumei Hall, a ballroom filled with elegant dancers. Everyone recognizes the old woman as the beautiful Komachi, praising her beauty.
