Description:
Ephraim Cabot, a remarkably energetic old man, fiercely loves his New England farm. His sons, who resent him and share his avarice, are the children of two women he pushed to their deaths through overwork. Eben is the most bitter; his mother had originally owned the farm and he believes he's the rightful heir. When Ephraim brings home a new wife, Anna, she unexpectedly becomes a rival for the farm's inheritance. Two of the sons depart after Eben pays them for their shares. Meanwhile, Anna attempts to stir trouble by flirting with Eben.
