Lohengrin from Varka Kru (2009)

This is a portrait of Martins Rubenis, a Latvian luger and Olympic medalist who won the first Winter Olympics medal for Latvia in Turin in 2006. Beyond his athletic achievements, he's known in alternative culture as DJ Betons, a member of the group Varka Kru. Like the medieval knight Lohengrin, Martins Rubenis approaches the luge track to face challenges – against rivals, himself, and the demands of time and the world.
