想念 (2011)

"Longing" tells the story of an elderly man (Mao Bo) in the hospital who, upset that a little girl in his room can't go on a school trip, decides to sneak out and travel with her. Filmed across Taiwan, from Taipei to Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, and Taichung, Mao Bo said he "pushed himself to the limit" to complete the journey. On the first day of filming, he physically pushed a broken-down truck up a mountain to capture the most authentic feeling. The film also features him carrying the girl through mountain paths, assisting with a cow birth, milking a cow, and even a scene where he fights a gangster to protect her. The cast and crew traveled tirelessly each day, enduring record-breaking heat and five typhoons. Despite the challenges, everyone, young and old, had a great time. Reflecting on his childhood memories, the director expresses gratitude for the support of friends in the industry and to producer Chen Zhende and director Qu Youning for helping him realize his dream, hoping the film will evoke cherished memories of longing in audiences.
