Description:
In 1920s Japan, a wealthy count becomes fixated on the writings of Marquis de Sade. He establishes a theater to stage plays based on the author's novels, casting thieves, prostitutes, and other marginalized people to enact his twisted fantasies for his affluent friends. Seeking ever greater thrills, the count forces an actor to violate his wife in his presence, threatening death if he refuses. This intrusion of reality into his world of decadence ultimately leads to devastating consequences for the count and his circle.
