Description:
In 1218, Danish King Valdemar sends his young heir, also named Valdemar, to Erskil, the bishop of Ravensburg, for his education as war looms at the borders. However, Bishop Erskil is secretly plotting to take the crown for himself, fueled by noble discontent with the costly wars. While exploring the castle, Prince Valdemar and his kitchen boy Aske overhear the conspirators' plans. Spotted, they are pursued by the men of the One-eyed Man, a ruthless mercenary seeking revenge on the king for being abandoned on the battlefield after losing his eye to an eagle – an eye he now shares with his tamed bird.
