Synaesthetic Anaesthesia (2004)

Using an optical printer, the film layers historical images from the colonial era with modern footage of landscapes, buildings, and events. Through montage and optical techniques, it builds these historical fragments into a rapidly accelerating sequence. The film aims to portray the overwhelming nature of the digital information age, but using only traditional photographic methods. This is a deliberate contrast to modern filmmaking. The sound design emphasizes the film's transformations, offering a thoughtful contrast to the perspective of the colonizers. The film reveals the colonist's exploitation of resources and places these historical images within a contemporary context.
