"The Speed Merchants" chronicles the 1972 manufacturer's Championship Series through the perspectives of drivers Mario Andretti (Ferrari 312P) and Vic Elford (Alfa Romeo T33TT/3). The film offers a behind-the-scenes look at races held at Daytona, Sebring, the Targa Florio, the Nurburgring, Le Mans, and Watkins Glen. It focuses on Andretti, Elford, as well as Jacky Ickx, Helmut Marko, and Brian Redman. The film also shows the drivers relaxing with their families in France, Belgium, Austria, and England between races. Rare footage of both the Ferrari and Alfa Romeo factories preparing the cars for each race is also included.
