Description:
A general and his stepdaughter are deeply in debt. The family tutor, who is in love with the girl, wins a fortune gambling and attempts to save her from her desperate circumstances, but she refuses his help. Prokofiev's first full-length opera, *The Gambler*, inspired by Dostoyevsky's semi-autobiographical story written to cover gambling debts, is rarely seen. This 2020 production features director Vasily Barkhatov, conductor Modestas Pitrenas, and stars Asmik Grigorian, winner of the 2019 International Opera Award, as Polina.
