Marco Spada, a ballet originally created at the Paris Opera in 1857 with choreography by Joseph Mazilier and music adapted from Daniel Auber’s opera, was later revived in 1981 with new choreography by Pierre Lacotte for the Rome Opera. The ballet features an 18th-century Italian bandit, Marco Spada, who disguises himself as an aristocrat, played by Rudolf Nureyev, and his daughter Angela, portrayed by Ghislaine Thesmar. Marco Spada premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre on November 8, 2013, with David Hallberg as Marco Spada, Evgenia Obraztsova as Angela, Olga Smirnova as Marchesa Sampietri, Semyon Chudin as Prince Frederici, and Igor Tsvirko as Count Pepinelli. Pierre Lacotte designed the sets and costumes.
