Timescapes: A Multimedia Portrait of New York, 1609-Today (2005)

This award-winning short documentary from the Museum of the City of New York charts the growth of New York City, from its beginnings as a small settlement of Europeans, Africans, and Native Americans to its current status as a global metropolis. The film uses animated maps and historical images – including photographs, prints, and paintings from the Museum's collections – to illustrate this evolution. The updated version includes a final section detailing the remarkable – and sometimes difficult – changes the city has undergone in the first ten years of the 21st century.
