Description:
In 1971, artist Juan Fresán began filming the story of Orélie Antoine de Tounens, a 19th-century Frenchman who declared himself "King of Patagonia and Araucanía," establishing his own government. The film, "New France," was never completed, hampered by funding issues and Fresán's subsequent exile. Years later, Carlos Sorín made a film inspired by Fresán’s unfinished project, where he had worked as a cinematographer. In 2004, Fresán reached out to Turturro to help restore the preserved footage. After Fresán's death that year, Turturro took on the task of completing the film, uncovering new materials, revisiting original locations, and gathering stories to reveal the intertwined narratives of this extraordinary true story – a tale stranger and more compelling than fiction.
