Description:
A New York publisher travels to Venice searching for the missing love letters of a 19th-century poet, Jeffrey Ashton, who vanished without a trace. Using a false identity, Lewis Venable rents a room from Juliana Bordereau, Ashton's former lover, now living in seclusion. Juliana's stern niece, Tina, immediately distrusts Venable. His investigation takes a disturbing turn when he finds Tina in a highly emotional state late one night, calling him by Jeffrey's name and seeking his embrace. A local priest warns Venable to be cautious of Tina’s delusions, but Venable is determined to find the letters, regardless of the consequences for her mental state.
