Close to the Sea (2004)

This ten-channel video installation, with sound by Jin Wang, stages a concert by the sea that tells the love story of a young couple. The videos show two scenes happening at once: a couple riding a horse along the coast and another pair of lovers fighting to survive a shipwreck. The eight surrounding screens feature various instruments playing simultaneously, like a trumpet and cello on the rocks. The music is hallucinatory and dreamlike, reflecting the conflict between ideals and reality. Even facing death, the young lovers continue to discuss their hopes, beliefs, and dreams.
