Brazilian Cinema in the 20th Century (2017)

Over a thousand hours of research went into creating this documentary about Brazilian Cinema in the 20th century. The project involved extensive visits to archives, film collections, and museums, along with nearly seventy interviews that yielded thirty hours of recorded material, plus over two hundred scanned photos and more than one hundred films viewed. The film explores all the major periods of Brazilian cinema, from its early days in the Belle Époque, through the influential studios of Atlântica and Cinédia, to the Cinema Novo movement, the comedies of the 1970s, and its revival in the late 1990s. The documentary features firsthand accounts from those who shaped Brazilian cinema.
