Description:
In 1986, Larry Tracey, a London-Irishman, founded the Irish Bobsleigh and Luge Association. He gathered a team of top Irish rowers with the goal of qualifying for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. After qualifying, their historic Olympic debut was within reach. However, the Olympic Council of Ireland blocked their participation in Calgary, a Games that famously launched the Jamaican bobsleigh team into the spotlight. The team persevered, aiming for the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France.
