Description:
Born in Austria in 1903, Jacob Rosenfeld was imprisoned in Dachau. He escaped and found refuge in Shanghai with 30,000 others. There, he practiced his profession and in 1941 joined the Chinese Communist Party. Rosenfeld became a surgeon on the front lines between China and Japan. His skills as a doctor and organizer quickly brought him close to Mao Zedong. In 1945, he was appointed general, overseeing the health of the armies and the liberated areas. He was then known as General Luo, and later became the Minister of Health for the first communist government. This documentary uses his journal, discovered in 2001, to recount his extraordinary life.
