Description:

Saint Petersburg, 1858. The composers known as The Five gather at Balakirev's, where the young Modest Mussorgsky, a civil servant and musician, is a regular. He shares his plans for his first opera. Later, in the countryside, he witnesses the harsh lives of peasants and the conflicts with wealthy landowners. He attempts to set Gogol's "The Marriage" to music, striving to capture the play's realistic dialogue. However, this proves unsuccessful. Meanwhile, he begins composing his opera based on the story of Boris Godunov. The Marinsky Theatre rejects the work, leading to accusations against Mussorgsky and The Five, and the group begins to fall apart. Years later, in 1874, "Boris Godunov" is finally performed to widespread acclaim.
