This work revisits my 1973 film of the Mona Lisa, incorporating my own memories. I'm now part of the subject, recalling seeing the painting around age thirteen, after encountering countless reproductions and the established myth of the enigmatic smile. I remember being struck by its smallness and protective enclosure – it felt less like a picture and more like a heavily guarded icon. The distant landscape captivated me more than the face itself. My film wasn't an homage or a critique like Duchamp's; it stemmed from an interest in change, transformation, and perhaps even appropriation.
