Hamlet (2013)

The Wooster Group’s HAMLET reimagines Shakespeare's tragedy by reworking Richard Burton’s 1964 Broadway performance, originally directed by John Gielgud. That production was recorded from seventeen camera angles and edited into a film shown briefly in nearly a thousand theaters across the U.S. as a groundbreaking event called “Theatrofilm.” The Wooster Group now reconstructs a hypothetical theater piece from the film’s fragmented evidence, channeling the spirit of that legendary 1964 performance and intentionally replacing their own with another's.
