Liverpool & Manchester (2010)

From Manchester Airport to Liverpool Lime Street, we take a remarkably smooth journey on a Northern Rail Class 156 Sprinter. This limited-stop service follows the entire Airport Branch line, a route avoiding Stockport that was constructed in 1909. We observe the platforms at Manchester Piccadilly and the elevated section passing through Oxford Road before connecting to the original route designed and built by George Stephenson. Though the original stone track is gone, the history remains, shared by former Calendar anchor Alan Hardwick.
