Bolinao 52 (2008)

In 1975, after the Vietnam War, hundreds of thousands of refugees risked everything crossing the South China Sea in search of freedom. Many perished from drowning, starvation, or thirst, while others were lost at sea or victims of pirates. More than 30 years later, their stories have largely been forgotten. Bolinao 52 brings this untold history to light, sharing a legacy of the Vietnam War that has remained unspoken. Filmmaker Duc Nguyen, himself a boat refugee, recounts the 37-day journey of the Bolinao 52, a vessel adrift at sea, and follows survivor Tung Trinh as she revisits her past to share her experience.
