In the late 1970s, the Group B International Motorsports Category was created to bring amateur and professional racing teams together, using similar production cars for both sports car racing and rally events. By the early 1980s, these cars became legendary in rallying – incredibly powerful, turbocharged, four-wheel-drive machines with 600 horsepower that dominated forest, tarmac, and gravel stages. However, in 1986, the category was discontinued because the cars were becoming too fast and dangerous for rally competition.
