Wings of Defeat (2007)

"Wings of Defeat" is a documentary that explores the lives of kamikaze pilots who survived World War II. Director Risa Morimoto investigates her uncle's hidden past – he trained as a kamikaze pilot but never spoke of it. She retraces his steps, interviewing surviving pilots about their training, their motivations, and their experiences in the cockpit. Sixty years later, these men share their stories of survival amidst the loss of thousands of comrades. Their accounts challenge us to understand their humanity and raise questions about a government's obligations to its soldiers and its people during wartime.
