Haruo experiences love at first sight when he sees Makoto crossing a busy street. For five years, he obsessively watches her, using binoculars from his apartment across from her home, observing her seemingly perfect life with her husband. He develops a routine of watching them daily, even learning lip-reading to simulate conversations. One day, Haruo witnesses Makoto's husband, Mikiya, having an affair. Determined to expose the truth, Haruo photographs the incident and sends the photos, along with a letter, to Makoto. However, she discards the photos without a reaction, and life returns to normal for the couple.
