Aliaksiej Ščadroŭ was a paramedic in Belarus, frequently called to assist homeless people only to see them abandoned. After a prison sentence, he experienced further rejection. Released, he lived as a vagrant, finding shelter in churches. He eventually established an unofficial sanctuary in the village of Aliaksandraŭka, providing care and assistance – including helping people obtain passports and rebuild their lives – for the poor and disabled. His efforts, however, have not been welcomed by local authorities.
