Description:
In 7th century China, during the Tang dynasty, General Shi Yan-sheng is deceived into leaving the crown prince unprotected. The prince is murdered by a brother who then seizes the throne. Shi withdraws to a monastery, possibly to remain hidden, or perhaps to plot revenge. When his loyal soldiers and the princess he loves are killed, he finds refuge in a secluded, deserted monastery where an elderly abbot teaches him grounded, practical lessons. The emperor's forces pursue Shi, using temptation and force – first a woman, then a general. Throughout the film, the violence of war gradually gives way to the serenity of meditation.
