Description:
Mitsu, a factory worker, develops a crush on Tsutomu, a man she met in Tokyo. They begin a relationship, but after some manipulation, Tsutomu leaves her alone. Haunted by his troubled past, he fears love and behaves cruelly. A month later, a changed Tsutomu returns, and they rekindle their romance, moving in together. Their happiness is disrupted when Mitsu discovers a strange sore on her arm, diagnosed as leprosy. She secretly enters a leper sanitarium, where she finds unexpected friendship and purpose among the other patients. Though she misses Tsutomu, she finds fulfillment helping them. When doctors later reveal the diagnosis was a mistake, Mitsu is overjoyed at the prospect of returning to Tsutomu. However, she realizes that going back would mean abandoning the friends she has made.
