Description:
Mathias Pascal, the sole heir to a dwindling fortune, marries Romalinda, whose mother proves to be a domineering presence, turning his home into a source of constant distress. His only solace is found in his mother and infant child, but they both die tragically on the same day. Devastated, he flees his hometown for Monte Carlo, where he unexpectedly wins a large sum of money gambling. Upon returning home, he discovers his own obituary. Authorities have identified a body in a creek and linked it to his disappearance. Realizing he is now unbound from his past, Mathias decides to embrace this opportunity for a fresh start.
