Description:
This moving family drama, with moments of humor, follows the life and challenges of a working-class couple in Hackney over forty years. Betty Balfour and Michael Hogan deliver wonderful performances as the couple who face life's difficulties with strength, from the Great War (with a son serving in the RAF and experiencing zeppelin raids) to a major oil fire during the General Strike. Gordon Harker provides excellent support. The film features the 1934 version of *My Old Dutch*, starring Albert Chevalier and Florence Turner, which the couple watches at the cinema. As the original silent film is lost, this version contains the only surviving footage.
