Description:
This is the true story of Isabelle Eberhardt, a Swiss explorer, journalist, and writer. In 1897, she and her mother moved to Annaba, Algeria, where her mother embraced Algerian culture and converted to Islam. Isabelle's unconventional lifestyle – dressing as a man and frequenting local establishments – challenged the French colonial authorities. Drawn to the Sahara, she traveled the desert disguised as Si Mahmoud, writing articles and books that critically examined life in southern Algeria. After defying orders in El Oued and witnessing the unjust treatment of Arab prisoners, she was arrested, accused of espionage, and expelled from Algeria. In 1901, she married Slimane, a Muslim non-commissioned officer, which granted her French citizenship and allowed her to return to Algeria.
